Altenew: Build-A-Flower Peony Blossom

Hello friends♥
Today Altenew released February's Build-A-Flower which is Peony Blossom!
It is a beautiful flower with layered images to add "crinkle" or "folds" in your stamped flower without colouring it in.

Before I start, I have to share this with you. My dad saw this card on my work table and I think he touched it to see if it was die cut or one layer because he couldnt figure it out. When I returned to the room, he was like "you made this on one layer, its not dimensional? I had to touch it to see what's going on there!". I can't tell you what a compliment this is, coming from my father! He is very critical of my work so this is MAJOR. I was beaming! STILL am!

I used Altenew Crest Solar White cardstock for my front panel. I stamped the largest flower in Coral Bliss Crisp Ink for the first layer and then stamped the second layer in Vineyard Berry. I then made a mask of the largest flower to add my second medium flower. I stamped this second flower in the same colours.

Next, I made a mask for the medium sized flowers and added leaves. These were stamped in Minty Mint, Just Green and Hunter Green.
After my image was stamped I added details with prismacolor pencils and softened the sharp lines a bit.

I have a photo on my instagram that shows the before and after of the stamped image before and after adding pencil details. For those of you who find colouring a daunting task, this is the way to go. You already have a stamped image showing you where the shadows and highlight are so it becomes easy.

In the end I tried adding a bit of shadow to my image using Morning Frost Artist Marker but the marker slipped out of my hand and left a mess on my card front. I coloured the whole panel because of this. I made sure my colouring lines were visible in order to hide the mess the marker left.
Then I added black paint splatters to hide the mess even more. It was after this step that I couldn't see the "path of destruction".
I then stamped the sentiment from Forever and Always stamp set and added Studio Katia crystals to my flowers as centers and also their clear dew drops.

This is what Altenew has to say for Peony Blossom:

"Our Build-A-Flower: Peony Blossom set includes 1 stamp set (15 images) and 1 coordinating die set (8 dies).
The Peony Blossom Build-A-Flower has a slightly different approach than our conventional Build-A-Flower sets. The stamp set has three five-petal flowers accompanied by a shading layer and a center layer. You may use these flowers as is, or layer them to create dimension. The matching dies will cut the flowers all the way to the edge without leaving a border. This will help in shaping the petals to the desired dimension when using a shaping tool (don't have a shaping tool? You can use the domed end of a pen or pencil!). We included an additional flower die and stamen dies to help you create realistic blooms! Even though we named the set 'Peony Blossom' since the petals were loosely based on Peony petals, you can let your imagination run wild and create different types of flowers! We can't wait to see what you come up with!"

WOW Erum. I am always amazed at your ability to create dimension on your flower petals, regardless of what medium you use. This is a gorgeous flower unto itself but you always manage to give them 'life'. Well done as always!

Hi E.T. - those colors are so bold and striking - I definitely thought the flowers are die cut and layered on top of the card so you did a great job in creating a 3D effect with your coloring. Beautiful work
